Overview
The VXI-SB2020 is a hardware and
software interface kit that links any Sun SPARCstation Series workstation with an
SBus slot directly to the VXIbus. The VME-SB2020 is a similar kit used for
VME systems (or B-size VXI system). The kits use the high-speed MXIbus cable to
establish a memory-mapped hardware link between the computer and the backplane
for high-performance operation. The VXI/VME-SB2020 makes your SPARCstation
perform as though it were plugged directly into the VXI/VME backplane, giving it
the capability of an embedded controller that plugs directly into a VXI/VME slot.
The kits include one circuit board that plugs into an SBus slot in your SPARCstation, either one C-size VXI Slot 0 module that plugs into your VXI mainframe (VXI-SB2020) kit or one 6U (B-size) VME-MXI that plugs into your VME chassis (VME-SB2020 kit), a 2 m flexible, round MXI cable, and complete NI-VXI/VISA bus interface software for Solaris. The NI-VXI/VISA software includes a Resource Manager, an interactive VXI/VME Resource Editor program, a comprehensive library of software routines for VXI/VME programming using C and/or LabVIEW for Sun, and an Interactive Control program for interacting with and learning about the VXI or VMEbus.
